In our latest Tainan Seafood Restaurant Review, an unexpected twist awaited. Eagerly aiming for “Tu Cheng Hai Xian”, fate had other plans. No reservations and a full house later, a revelation emerged: “海鲜岛活物料理”. Dive into this adventure with me.

At first glance on a Monday lunchtime, the ambiance was a comforting juxtaposition to our previous locale. Bathed in natural light, the spacious expanse beckoned us, promising culinary delights.

Menu

Keen to savor Tainan’s famed crab, our inquiry was met with an affirmative nod. Without further ado, we ordered 3 steamed crabs, totaling 2300 NTD. As a companion to our main event, we selected deep-fried cuttlefish balls (200 NTD), deep-fried oysters (200 NTD), stir-fried clams with basil (260 NTD), and stir-fried cabbage with dried shrimps (320 NTD).

The two fried dishes showcased impeccable culinary technique: crisp exteriors that gave way to succulent interiors. The cuttlefish balls boasted a genuineness, the discernible cuttlefish chunks revealing their hand-made origin. The oysters, equally splendid, melded crunchy texture with a lushness within. A generous portion indeed for its price.

The clams, stir-fried to perfection with basil, transformed into an irresistible accompaniment to rice, each bite releasing an explosion of freshness and flavor.

Yet, the true pièce de résistance was the crabs. Their roe, a buttery decadence, sang praises of the ocean’s bounty. Remarkably, despite their modest size, they were generous with their meat, tender and sweet, putting many larger counterparts to shame.
