As a food and travel influencer, I couldn’t resist sharing my delightful experience at Si Ji Ming Fu Peking Duck Restaurant, one of the most renowned spots in China for Peking duck. With multiple outlets in Beijing, we chose the bustling Wang Fu Jin location to savor this culinary treasure. Join me as I dive into the flavors and unique dishes that make Si Ji Ming Fu Peking Duck Restaurant a must-visit for any food lover.
Appetitizers @ Si Ji Min Fu
Cabbage with Jellyfish Salad (42 RMB)
This dish is a refreshing start to the meal. The raw cabbage combined with the jellyfish, dressed in what seems to be a lightly vinegared dressing, creates a perfect balance that prepares the palate for the flavors to come. It’s not overly sour, just enough to be appetizing.
Braised Duck Tongue (69 RMB)
Tender and generously portioned, the braised duck tongue is a standout. Each bite is deliciously succulent, and it’s hard to stop once you start. This dish is a must-try for anyone looking to experience something extraordinary.
Main Course @ Si Ji Min Fu
Half a Peking Duck (159 RMB)
The star of the show, of course, is the Peking duck. Here in Beijing, the experience is slightly different from what you might find in Singapore or Malaysia. The side dishes—sweet sauce, cucumber, and spring onion—need to be purchased separately, as does the skin, which comes stacked with a layer of paper underneath for easy retrieval.
The skin is soft, warm, and chewy, and could easily be enjoyed on its own. The duck itself is perfectly roasted, with a super crispy skin that conceals the embedded fats, making it incredibly flavorful. The meat is tender and juicy, enjoyable with or without the skin. While the portion might seem a bit small, it’s likely due to the smaller size of the bird. Personally, I enjoyed wrapping the duck breast while savoring the duck thigh on its own.
Mala Duck Intestine (59 RMB)
This dish is a delightful surprise. The duck intestine, with a texture reminiscent of jellyfish, is crunchy and not at all gamy, unlike pig’s intestine. When combined with the mala sauce, it becomes a truly appetizing dish.
3 Seafood Mix (128 RMB)
Featuring jellyfish, prawns, and squids, this dish showcases the freshness of each seafood component. The unique combination of these three makes for a delicious and satisfying dish. However, perhaps we ordered too much jellyfish overall, as we found it challenging to finish this one.
Braised Tofu Soup with Pork (68 RMB)
This soup is comforting and well-balanced, with the braised tofu and pork adding depth to the broth. It’s a perfect dish to complement the other richer, more intense flavors on the table.
Desserts @ Si Ji Min Fu
Almond Tofu (16 RMB)
A light and refreshing end to the meal, the almond tofu is delicate and subtly sweet. It’s a perfect palate cleanser after the array of flavors from the main courses.
Yogurt with Honeycomb (16 RMB)
This dessert offers a wonderful contrast of textures—the creamy yogurt paired with the crunchy honeycomb is a delightful combination, providing a sweet finish to the meal
Our Thoughts @ Si Ji Min Fu
All in all, dining at Si Ji Ming Fu Peking Duck Restaurant was an extraordinary experience. The Peking duck was exceptional, and the unique dishes added a memorable touch that we don’t often find in Singapore. The prices were reasonable, and as a Singaporean, I’m already looking forward to returning to Si Ji Ming Fu Peking Duck Restaurant to explore more of their tantalizing menu items.
