If you’re a durian lover or simply seeking an extraordinary high tea experience, the MSW Durian Afternoon Tea at Lobby Lounge, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, is an indulgence you won’t want to miss. From 1 July to 30 September 2024, this luxurious afternoon tea celebrates the peak of durian season with an exquisite selection of durian-infused savory and sweet delights. Priced at $48 per person on weekdays, with free-flow TWG teas and coffee, we chose to savor this unique treat during a leisurely weekday, and it was every bit as delightful as we had hoped.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and ushered to our seats. The experience began with a chilled hibiscus mocktail, a refreshing welcome drink that set the tone for the delightful afternoon ahead. After selecting our teas, the highlight of our visit arrived—a beautifully presented 4-tiered high tea stand.
Savory Delights @MSW Durian Afternoon Tea
The bottom two tiers featured an array of savory treats. The lowest tier included a durian cheese tart and a black pepper chicken pie. The durian cheese tart was a standout, offering a unique and impressive combination of strong yet not overpowering durian flavor with the smoothness of cheese. The black pepper chicken pie was equally delightful, with a perfect balance of spice and savory goodness.
Moving up to the next tier, we enjoyed feta and artichoke vol-au-vents, yuzu smoked duck mantou, and scones with turkey bacon. The vol-au-vents were light and flavorful, while the smoked duck mantou was innovative and packed with rich flavors. The scones with turkey bacon were a unique twist on the classic, with the bacon adding a delightful texture and taste that elevated the scone.
Sweet Indulgences @MSW Durian Afternoon Tea
The top two tiers were dedicated to sweet treats, each infused with the king of fruits—durian. The uppermost tier featured durian pâté à choux, durian crepe, and durian madeleine. Each item was a testament to the versatility of durian in desserts. The durian crepe, beautifully shaped like a wallet, revealed thick durian filling that was a joy to savor. The madeleine struck the perfect balance, neither too moist nor too dry, and complemented the durian flavor wonderfully.
The tier below offered even more intriguing creations: durian macaron, durian with mango pomelo verrine, and durian chocolate praline. The durian mango pomelo verrine was a personal favorite, reminiscent of mango pomelo sago but with a smooth, fragrant pudding that melted in the mouth. The durian puree added an extra dimension to this delectable treat. Both the macaron and chocolate praline were also delightful, each offering a unique take on durian-infused sweets.
Overall Experience @Marriott’s MSW Afternoon Tea
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the MSW Durian Afternoon Tea at Lobby Lounge. Each dish, from savory to sweet, brilliantly showcased the versatility of durian, making it a truly unforgettable experience. Although the absence of a child price was a slight drawback, the exceptional quality of the food made it worth every cent. This MSW Durian Afternoon Tea is a must-try for durian enthusiasts and anyone looking to indulge in a unique high tea.
