Diving into the authentic high-tea style dim sum at Bao Teck Tea House, a Michelin-awarded sanctuary in George Town, Penang, was like rediscovering the essence of culinary artistry. Elevating the traditional to the extraordinary, this experience is set to captivate every food enthusiast’s heart.

First Impressions at Bao Teck Tea House

Stepping into Bao Teck Tea House, I was swept away by the authentic heritage setting. The beautifully restored house, laden with traditional charm and modern elegance, was as ‘Instagrammable’ as it gets. I couldn’t help but get my phone out and capture the aesthetically pleasing corners and intricate details of this lavish establishment.

An Elevated, High-Tea Styled Dim Sum Experience

The unique selling proposition of Bao Teck Tea House is undoubtedly their high-tea style presentation of traditional dim sums. Instead of the usual bamboo steamers, each dish was served on exquisite fine china, making it feel like a royal feast. And the food?

Steamed Stuffed Big Bun (RM15): This was nostalgia on a plate. The massive bun, brimming with a delicious mix of ingredients, was an explosion of flavors. Each bite reminded me of old family recipes, lovingly passed down through generations.

Snowy Char Siu Bun (RM8.80): An absolute treat, these buns were a contrast of the familiar barbecue pork filling in a novel, snowy bun. It’s a sweet and savory dance of flavors that you simply can’t resist,

Siew Mai (RM8.80) and Prawn Dumplings (RM12.80): The siew mai was a pork lover’s delight, while the prawn dumplings encapsulated the essence of the sea in each bite. Perfectly cooked, they melted in my mouth, leaving a trail of incredible flavors.

Glutinous Rice: Tasting the glutinous rice was like unwrapping a fragrant gift. Steamed in a lotus leaf with a delectable mix of ingredients, it was a celebration of textures and tastes.

Golden Sesame Ball (RM 8.80): These bite-sized wonders were a revelation. The crunch of sesame, the oozing salted egg filling, and the perfect level of sweetness resulted in a dessert that was sinfully good!

Quality, Ambiance, Affordability – A Foodie’s Dream

It’s rare to find a Michelin-awarded restaurant that not only prioritizes the quality of its dishes but also offers an unforgettable ambiance and fair prices. Bao Teck has managed to strike this delicate balance, making it a dream destination for any food lover
