Uncover Sensational Hong Kong Seafood in Kuala Lumpur!

My latest quest led me to an exciting discovery – “Kuchai Lama Mei Kee Seafood,” an enchanting seafood haven nestled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. What drew me in was the restaurant’s captivating Chinese moniker, inspired by none other than the legendary seafood paradise of Hong Kong, Sai Kung. Fueled by curiosity and a voracious appetite for adventure, my family and I embarked on a journey to savor the essence of Kuala Lumpur’s Hong Kong Seafood.

Kuala Lumpur Hong Kong Seafood (Mei Kee Seafood): Ambiance

The moment we walked through the doors, the ambiance of Kuchai Lama Mei Kee Seafood transported us to the bustling streets of Hong Kong. The restaurant was adorned with traditional decor that exuded an authentic vibe. Live seafood tanks lined the walls, promising a seafood feast like no other.

Kuala Lumpur Hong Kong Seafood (Mei Kee Seafood): The Menu

We found ourselves in a dilemma as we perused the extensive à la carte menu, with tantalizing options at every turn. Eventually, we settled on something that seemed too good to pass up – the “Seafood Value Set (2pax).” At just 198 MYR (57 SGD) per set, it was an irresistible offer. With six of us dining, we opted for two sets, doubling our chances to sample a wide range of dishes.

The concept of the value set allowed us to choose a crab, two types of seafood, and two other zi char (Chinese home-style cooking) dishes. Additionally, we had the freedom to select seafood items worth up to 60 MYR each. This turned out to be an excellent choice, as it allowed us to experience a variety of flavors beyond what the à la carte menu offered.

Kuala Lumpur Hong Kong Seafood (Mei Kee Seafood): The Seafood

Choice of Crab: We went for the best of both worlds – one fried crab with garlic and chili and another fried crab with ginger and onion. The crabs were exceptionally fresh and cooked to perfection, with tender crab meat that melted in our mouths. The crispy, fragrant bites from the garlic and chili crab were a highlight of our meal.

Choice of other seafood: We chose the following: steamed shrimp with minced garlic, baked scallop with cheese, and braised fish maw with ginger and onion. The steamed shrimp was a garlic lover’s dream, with incredibly fresh shrimp perfectly complemented by the aromatic minced garlic. The baked scallop maintained its natural sweetness and texture, proving that simplicity can be divine. The braised fish maw was a hearty dish, rich in flavor and generous in portion.

Next up, the Hong Kong styled steam Soon Hock. We couldn’t resist ordering a steamed soon hock, and so we topped up from 120 MYR to order a live soon hock which cost 268 MYR. The fish was impeccably fresh and prepared in the signature Hong Kong style. What truly impressed us was the chef’s impeccable timing in steaming the fish, ensuring it remained tender and not overcooked.

Kuala Lumpur Hong Kong Seafood (Mei Kee Seafood): The Zi Char

Our zi char selections included steamed pork belly with Tai O shrimp paste, baihua maw stuffed three treasures, and steamed baby cabbage with garlic and dried shrimp. We also upgraded our fourth item to a chicken soup with fish maw and shark fin for an additional 88 MYR. The steamed pork belly was tender and full of Hong Kong flavors, a nostalgic taste that resonated with many. The steamed cabbage resembled the steamed shrimp with minced garlic, which, while delicious, led us to think that we could have explored a broader spectrum of the restaurant’s offerings.

One standout feature of our meal was the generous ingredients in the chicken soup, which included half a chicken and a substantial portion of shark’s fin. The highlight, however, was the flavorful chicken broth used to prepare the soup.

In our culinary escapade, we found that Kuchai Lama Mei Kee Seafood surpassed our expectations. From the moment we stepped inside to the final bite, the essence of Kuala Lumpur’s Hong Kong Seafood culture enveloped us. The sheer freshness of the seafood, the impeccable quality of each dish, and the unbeatable value of the set meal left us with a deep sense of satisfaction. It’s worth noting, though, that the restaurant’s set menu may undergo periodic changes, so it’s advisable to inquire about the latest offerings.

For those yearning to embark on a gastronomic voyage that brings the vibrant flavors of Hong Kong’s seafood culture right to Kuala Lumpur, Kuchai Lama Mei Kee Seafood is an undeniable must-visit. With its authentic atmosphere and an array of delectable dishes, this establishment promises an unforgettable culinary journey you won’t want to let slip by.
