Cray Platter @ Fremantle Cray Seafood Grill

Unforgettable Seafood Feast at Fremantle’s Must-Try Cray Grill!

After a bustling morning at Fremantle Market, we were craving a delicious seafood lunch. Just a five-minute walk away, we discovered the Fremantle Cray Seafood Grill, a gem with its spacious, modern decor. Intrigued by the promise of fresh, high-quality seafood, we eagerly decided to dive in and experience what this top-rated spot had to offer.

Although we were still quite full from the market’s street food, we opted for a shared meal, perfect for our group of five (1 senior, 1 child, and 3 adults). We ordered:

  • 1 Seafood Chowder ($26)
  • 1 Cray Platter ($165)
  • 1 Chicken Parmigiana ($38)

The service was swift, and the first dish to arrive was the seafood chowder. This creamy, classic-style chowder was a generous serving, packed with large chunks of fresh seafood, including fish, prawns, mussels, and clams. The freshness of the seafood really shone through, offering a taste of the ocean with every spoonful.

The Star @ Fremantle Cray Seafood Grill

Next up was the Cray Platter, which was a feast for the eyes and the palate. Centered on the platter was a full momay lobster, grilled to perfection with melted cheese and a panko crumb topping. Despite being just one lobster, it was large enough for all of us to enjoy a decent portion. The lobster was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, and I found myself preferring this Australian lobster over the Boston variety for its sweetness and juiciness.

The platter also included a delightful assortment of seafood: two pieces of battered fish, creamy garlic prawns, chili mussels, prawn and scallop skewers, grilled crumbed fish, salt and pepper calamari, fresh oysters, Moreton Bay bugs (which we commonly call crayfish in Singapore), and a fresh salad. The servings were incredibly generous, and though the platter was meant for two, it easily satisfied all five of us. The oysters deserve a special mention for their freshness, and I particularly enjoyed the battered fish, garlic prawns, calamari, and Moreton Bay bugs, all of which were superbly prepared and bursting with flavor.

Final Thoughts about Fremantle Cray Seafood Grill

Finally, we had the chicken parmigiana, which was ordered by my son. This dish featured a panko-crumbed tender chicken breast, served with napoletana sauce and mozzarella. The portion size was impressive, and despite being a breast cut, the chicken was remarkably tender and juicy, complemented beautifully by the cheesy topping.

Overall, our meal at The Cray Seafood & Grill Restaurant was superb. The portions were just right for sharing, and we left feeling fully satisfied but not overly stuffed. The freshness and quality of the seafood were exceptional, and the variety on the platter ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy. This is definitely a place I’d love to revisit on my next trip to Western Australia.
