In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where cultures converge and flavors dance, my quest for the finest Spanish cuisine led me to El Cerdo. Amidst the city’s bustling vibes and soaring skyscrapers, this gem stood out, promising an authentic Iberian experience. My El Cerdo Kuala Lumpur review journey began upon hearing its acclaim as KL’s premier Spanish dining destination, and I was eager to savor its legendary dishes for myself.
Located in Changkat, Bukit Bintang, the epicenter of KL’s entertainment, El Cerdo enjoys the best of both worlds. The setting is prime for a gastronomic journey as well as a delightful evening of people-watching. We were seated outdoors, which added a touch of authentic Spanish al fresco dining to our experience.
El Cerdo KL Review: The Tapas
The menu at El Cerdo is vast and can overwhelm the uninitiated. From tapas to entrees, the variety is mind-boggling. Our first hurdle was selecting our appetizers, but after much contemplation, we settled on:
- Deep fried squids with aioli (25 MYR)
- Grilled Squids with Garlic and Parsley sauce (25 MYR)
- Sautéed Prawns with Olive oil (28 MYR)
- Tiger Prawns wrapped with Bacon and Aioli (30 MYR)
Despite opting for two dishes each of prawns and squids, each preparation stood out in its own unique way. The deep-fried squids were a crisp sensation with a fresh, succulent center, a rarity in many establishments that serve calamari. The grilled squids, on the other hand, delivered a smoky charm without compromising on their innate tenderness. However, the show-stealer, at least for me, was the tiger prawns wrapped with bacon—a marriage of flavors that was nothing short of divine.
El Cerdo KL Review: The Main Course
With our appetites piqued, we delved into the mains. The highlight, of course, was the signature suckling pig (268 MYR). The ceremonious arrival of the pig was a spectacle. As per Spanish tradition, my son had the honor of cutting the pig using a plate—a testament to its tenderness. The crispy skin contrasted beautifully with the melt-in-your-mouth fat and meat. It’s no hyperbole when I say this might just be one of the best suckling pigs I’ve ever had.
The wait for the Seafood Paella (110 MYR) was a tad long, but the fragrant, flavorful rice peppered generously with seafood made every minute worth it.
El Cerdo KL Review: The Dessert
For dessert, we indulged in the Rum & Raisin pancake (48 MYR). Soft, fluffy pancakes topped with ice cream—it was a sweet end to a delightful meal.
To wrap up my El Cerdo Kuala Lumpur review, this restaurant isn’t merely a dining spot—it’s a culinary journey. The alluring promise of a complimentary suckling pig after collecting 10 rings ensures I’ll be back. If your travels take you to KL, dining at El Cerdo is an experience you shouldn’t miss.
