Returning to Tang Palace at the Hilton Hotel in Beijing was like greeting an old friend. With fond memories of exquisite braised shark’s fin and roasted pigeon from my pre-COVID visit, I eagerly anticipated this culinary reunion. As someone who has experienced top-tier dining at places like RISE Marina Bay Sands, I was curious to see if Tang Palace could still captivate my taste buds in a post-pandemic world.
Ambiance
The restaurant remains impressive in its size and spaciousness. Tables are thoughtfully spaced, allowing for comfortable conversations without the intrusion of neighboring diners’ chatter. It’s a perfect setting for a relaxed dining experience.
Appetizers
Preserved Persimmon (68 RMB): The preserved persimmon was a delightful start. Beautifully presented, it offered a sweetness that was both natural and intense, though it lacked the juiciness of a fresh persimmon. This unique appetizer was a pleasant surprise, though the portion was a tad large for our party of three.
Main Course
Roasted Pigeon (96 RMB for ½ a bird): The roasted pigeon lived up to its previous glory. Evenly roasted, tender inside, and perfectly marinated, each bite was a burst of flavor. This dish is a must-try and a reason to revisit Tang Palace whenever in China.
Roasted Goose (118 RMB): The roasted goose was equally impressive. Reminiscent of the best goose dishes in Hong Kong, it was well-marinated and juicy, with just the right amount of fat. Unlike other establishments, this goose lacked the typical gamey flavor, making it a standout dish.
Low-Temp Cooked Fish with Rice (79 RMB): The low-temp cooked fish was superb. Fresh and tender, the delicateness of the fish shone through, likely due to the careful cooking method. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s skill.
Deep-Fried Fish (88 RMB): The deep-fried fish was another highlight. Fresh, likely ocean-sourced, and oozing omega-3 goodness, it was a joy to eat. The crispy exterior and moist interior made for a delightful contrast.
Seafood Pao Fan (78 RMB): The seafood pao fan was comfort in a bowl. Laden with prawns, squids, fish, and clams, it was a hearty dish perfect for a rainy day. The abundance of seafood made each spoonful a delightful treasure hunt.
Final Thoughts
Beijing Hilton Tang Palace remains a top choice for a memorable dining experience. From unique appetizers to expertly cooked main courses, this restaurant offers a culinary journey worth taking. Just be mindful of the tea prices, and you’re set for a fantastic meal!
